The Record Critics' Forum Special for High School Students Specializing in Music Sunday, March 22, 2026, 4-6 p.m.
6 final year students specializing in music (1 per academy) from the high schools of Charleville-Mézières (Louise Rousseau for the Sévigné high school), La Roche-sur-Yon, Laval, Aix-en-Provence, Givors and Caen were selected to participate in public in this Forum.
For 2 hours, in a foyer of the Maison de la radio et de la musique transformed into a radio studio for the occasion, 2 trios of high school students took part in the game of music criticism in front of an audience of high school students and teachers, around three works that they had worked on in class: Till Eulenspiegel by Strauss, Für Elise by Beethoven and The Flight of the Bumblebee by Rimsky-Korsakov.
The program was broadcast on Sunday, March 22nd from 4pm to 6pm and then made available for replay and posted online on the music baccalaureate resources page.

Trip to Paris - Music Specialty
Music students had an exceptional stay in Paris on Thursday, March 19th and Friday, March 20th.
A highlight of the trip: the recording of "La Tribune des critiques de disques" (The Record Critics' Forum) as part of a special program for high school students. A unique experience, hosted by Louise Rousseau representing the school, featuring blind listening sessions of Beethoven's "Für Elise" and Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee." Scheduled to air on Sunday, March 22nd at 4 pm on France Musique: a must-see event, also available online as a podcast: https://www.radiofrance.fr/francemusique/podcasts/la-tribune-des-critiques-de-disques/la-tribune-des-lyceens-till-l-espiegle-de-r-strauss-lettre-a-elise-de-beethoven-le-vol-du-bourdon-de-rimski-korsakov-8424047
The stay continued with an immersion in the Latin Quarter, through an original photo tour, discovering this major student and cultural area.
The evening at the legendary Caveau de la Huchette offered the students a memorable moment, between swing, dance and an electrifying atmosphere in the heart of Parisian jazz.
On Friday, the visit to the Maison de la Radio provided an exciting discovery of its architecture, recording studios and concert halls: a real dive into the backstage.
Finally, we headed to La Villette, with a visit to the Museum of Music, followed by an exceptional immersive experience at the Philharmonie around Playing with Fire.

Opera is the target for the music option.
On Wednesday, March 11, the third – and penultimate – rehearsal of the Hot Box Night project took place, the jazz musical comedy performed by the 62 students of the music option at the Lycée Sévigné in partnership with the Reims Opera.
Throughout the day, the students worked on the staging and vocal performance, in order to refine each moment of the show and to give even more coherence and energy to this collective production.
This rehearsal helped to structure the program, clarify artistic intentions and strengthen the group dynamic essential to this type of stage project.
An intense and essential day for the progress of the show: a lot of work, concentration, but also pleasure, sharing and a beautiful collective energy around the music and the stage.
The adventure continues… and the next rehearsal will bring us even closer to the moment when the students will take to the stage to perform the songs from this jazz musical on Tuesday, May 19th at the Reims Opera House.

High school students' voices: a project by music students in partnership with the Francofolies festival
Rap, pop, rock, electro… The history of French music over the last forty years is punctuated by great albums that have marked several generations, from baby boomers to the young people of Generation Alpha. While the album format has lost some of its popularity in the era of streaming and social media, it remains the preferred medium for understanding the coherence of an artistic approach: an album is not just a simple succession of songs, but a complete project, conceived in its unity, its tone, its style — from the cover art to the number of tracks.
It was around this idea that the music students in their first and final years at the Lycée Sévigné participated in the "Paroles de lycéens" (Students' Voices) project, in partnership with the Francofolies de La Rochelle festival. This work was fully aligned with the program's theme, "Musician: Witness and Actor of History," inviting everyone to reflect on the role of the artist in society and the cultural impact of musical works.
Participants were given a personal and artistic instruction: “Choose an album that touches you, whether it was a part of your childhood or accompanied moments shared with friends. Explain why this album is important, which songs move you, and what memories are attached to it.”
Students had the opportunity to write a review of their ideal album or to illustrate its cover. To guide their inspiration, a resource offered forty emblematic albums of contemporary French-language music. They were free, however, to start with their favorite artist, explore a discography, or listen again to their favorite tracks to better understand the artistic logic of an album.
This project allowed students to develop a wide range of skills: argumentation, written expression, precise musical vocabulary, as well as aesthetic analysis and critical thinking. Particular attention was paid to the quality of the writing, the sensitivity of the subject matter, and the musicality of the prose.
For students who chose illustration, the goal was to design the cover of their dream album: to imagine a coherent, original, and expressive visual, linked to a Francophone artist or a fictional project. Inventiveness, color choices, and image composition were major evaluation criteria.
The "High School Students' Voices" competition will conclude with a national selection:
- First prize: the best drawing will be published on the front page of the special re-edition of the newspaper Le 1 on the occasion of Press Week (March 2026), and its author will win two tickets for an evening of the Francofolies 2026 festival;
- Second prize: the best testimony will be published in this same edition and will reward its author with two tickets for an evening of the festival;
- Third prize: Jury's favorite, also accompanied by two invitations to the Francofolies.
In addition, thirty other drawings and testimonies will be exhibited in the spring in participating establishments and presented at the Francofolies Festival in La Rochelle in July 2026.
Through this project, students at Lycée Sévigné were able to combine musical passion, critical thinking, and artistic creativity. "Paroles de lycéens" (Students' Voices) thus stands out as a true springboard for cultural expression, where each participant becomes simultaneously a spectator, creator, and analyst of the Francophone musical world.

Jean Macé feat. Sévigné – Christmas Session for 3rd year CHAM students and 2nd year music option students
On Friday, November 19th, the 3rd year CHAM students from Collège Jean Macé and the 2nd year music option students from Lycée Sévigné worked together on a common project: the creation of a Christmas medley. Divided into small groups, they discovered and revisited emblematic pieces from the Christmas repertoire, then linked their different proposals to build a collective, coherent and festive work.
For the 3rd year students, it's a first step into high school, an opportunity to discover a new environment, to meet high school students and to experience a moment of shared musical practice with students from the music section.
For the 2nd year students, this project demonstrates the central place of musical practice at the heart of the challenges of the music option: listening, collaboration, creativity, high standards and the pleasure of playing together.
This work will culminate in a small performance scheduled for December 19th at 12:30pm in the courtyard of the Lycée Sévigné.

Electronic music and contemporary dance for music specialization students
On Wednesday, November 5th, music students attended the TCM performance "Portrait of Mehdi Kerkouche," the choreographer of Angèle and Christine and the Queens, among others.
An evening rich in emotions, where contemporary dance and musical creation blended with energy and poetry to create a family portrait.
A great opportunity for our students to discover other artistic practices and to nurture their sensitivity as spectators, as an extension of the work carried out since the beginning of the year on electronic music, the hybridization of aesthetics and artistic practices.

Music students: music critics of the Cuivres en Ardennes festival
Since March, high school students specializing in music have had the opportunity to collaborate with the Brass Festival in the Ardennes, a major event in the region's cultural and artistic life, celebrating the richness and diversity of brass repertoire. This partnership has allowed students to fully immerse themselves in the festival's world, combining cultural study and musical analysis, discovering the festival and its ecosystem, outreach activities, and concerts.
THIS PROJECT WAS STRUCTURED AROUND THREE MAIN AXES:
1. AN INSPIRING ARTISTIC INTERVENTION: LUCIE POTRON, PRESIDENT OF THE CUIVRES EN ARDENNES ASSOCIATION, MEETED WITH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO DISCUSS THE ASSOCIATION AND ITS PROJECTS: THE WORKSHOP AND THE FESTIVAL. THIS MEETING WAS ALSO AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE STUDENTS TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF ASSOCIATIONS IN THE CULTURAL AND ARTISTIC NETWORK OF THE REGION.
2. WRITING PROGRAM NOTES: In order to better understand the aesthetics and repertoires of the groups programmed for the festival and to make them accessible to the public, the students wrote program notes intended to inform and raise public awareness of the concerts. This challenging exercise, combining factual elements, objectives, and personal, subjective expression, allowed them to develop skills in analysis, cultural awareness, critical thinking, argumentation, and expression. Conductor Adrien Roman and the board members of Cuivres en Ardennes selected the best program notes from those written by the students. The review committee praised the quality of the students' work. These program notes will be included in the Cuivres en Ardennes festival's promotional materials (flyers, programs, and will be available on the Cuivres en Ardennes website: https://cuivresenardennes.fr).
3. INVITATION TO CONCERTS: STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND THE CONCERTS OF THE FESTIVAL WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE FROM JULY 26 TO AUGUST 2 IN SEDAN. THEY WILL THUS HAVE THE CHANCE TO LISTEN TO CONCERTS IN THE HALL (NOTWICE NUBU AT THE CULTURAL CENTER, UMLAUT BIG BAND AT THE MARCILLET HALL) AND AT THE BROWN NIGHT IN THE BOTANICAL GARDEN (TO LISTEN TO BARBECUE BRASS, LE GRÔS TOUR OR TANKUS).

Presentation by a screenwriter to final-year students specializing in film and audiovisual studies
On Wednesday, November 26th, screenwriter Michel Meyer spoke to a class of final-year students specializing in film and audiovisual studies. After having read the screenplays developed by the four groups of students for the films they will present for their baccalaureate exams, Meyer provided them with detailed feedback on the strengths of their work and discussed areas they could consider to further improve its quality. His experience in cinematic storytelling, along with his insightful perspective on the students' screenplays, contributed to the development of the projects, which he found promising and engaging, reflecting the genuine concerns of their writer-directors. The four films in development are titled *Le Meilleur temps* (The Best Time), *A Travers l'objectif* (Through the Lens), *Kidnapping* (working title), and *Fatum*.

On Friday, October 10th, students in the 10th grade film and audiovisual studies option and in the 11th and 12th grade film and audiovisual studies specializations participated in the War On Screen Festival in Châlons-sur-Marne. They were able to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of an international film festival. The morning was devoted to a presentation of the Festival and its programming by programmer Hervé Bougon and coordinator Marthe Pierot, followed by a visit to an exhibition of original posters and a "makeup and special effects" workshop with Franck Dubois from the Accurate Dream special effects studio. In the afternoon, the students watched five short films at La Comète cinema, including Dans la boue (In the Mud) and 67 milliseconds (67 Milliseconds), in the presence of directors Andy Buron and Galdric Fleury, as well as the Korean animated feature film The Square by Bo-Sol Kim. The students voted for the Audience Award, and some of them explained their choices in interviews that can be found on the Festival's Facebook page. The winners were announced on Sunday, October 12: all the films seen by the students received awards: The Square won the International Grand Jury Prize, 67 milliseconds the High School Jury Grand Prize, and Dans la boue (In the Mud) the Audience Award.
